Turn Your Highs + Lows From 2017 Into an Action Plan for 2018

How was your 2017?

Remember last year when everyone wanted 2016 to end? Trump had recently been elected (seems like decades ago), celebrities were passing away right and left, and some were prophesying the end of the world.

Personally, I felt extraordinary this time last year. My focus was on dabbing baby drool and planning a sun-soaked holiday with my amazing stepchildren. My only pursuit was to enjoy motherhood, so I did.

And just when life was feeling really juicy and sweet, I felt the urge to change everything (which is how it often goes for us when life is good).

In early February, I wanted to return to work, to create, to engage, and to even get my master’s certification. All of the sudden, I had to learn how to be a mom and a wife and a friend and a business owner and a coach and a student all at the same time.

2017 was tough. There were steep learning curves and raw, painful moments. But luckily for all of us, the tough years bring the deepest learning and most profound growth.

The key is to capture that learning and growth and use it to uncork new magic in the year to come. We can do this by using the lessons of the past to spark tomorrow’s (and better yet, today’s) inspired action.

These final days of the year mark a perfect time to reflect. And I’d like to share with you a simple method that powerfully captures everything you need to know from the past 12 months.

It’s a technique I learned while working with the military that I turned into an end of the year review.

Here’s how it works:

1. Think of three things in your life that you want to SUSTAIN, and three things you want to IMPROVE in the following 6 categories: Relationships, Careers, Hobbies, Health, Spiritual, and Love/Family.

For example, I started intermittent fasting in 2017, and I absolutely loved it. This is one thing I will sustain in the category of Health. One thing I’ll improve is to consume more raw fruits and vegetables.

2. Mindmap your results (either with pen and paper or online). I created this online template for you for FREE at mindmeister.com.

3. When the mindmap is complete, go through each area you want to improve and sustain and identify if any new action is required. If new action is required, then identify one teeny tiny action to take in the next day or two. And do it!

4. Print your mindmap and pin it up in a visible spot or tape it to your planner. Revisit it periodically and continually take teeny tiny actions to improve or sustain as needed.

The reason this process works so much better than New Year’s resolutions is because YOU ARE TAKING ACTION NOW and based directly on your recent past experience. You’re not resolving to do something some day. You set yourself up for greater success when you say, “I go hiking in the woods on Fridays.” Instead of, “I resolve to one day start hiking in the woods.”

So don’t resolve to do the mindmap, do it today. HERE is the template in PDF form as well.

Looking forward to 2018, I have big news. I am narrowing my coaching focus. I will still offer you tips and insights on the following three things:

1. Discovering the core gifts you were born with and using them to revitalize your life + career,
2. Taking the right amount of energizing action to both achieve your goals and feel balanced (not burned out), and
3. Establishing efficient systems to manage your time and effectively plan your day to get more done by doing less.

And…I will target entrepreneurs who are moms. If you are neither an entrepreneur or a mom, but you’re interested in the topics above, then please stay with me on this journey. And if at any time you’re not feeling served by my emails, then simply unsubscribe.

If you happen to be or are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur or a mom (or you do work or want to do work that is somewhat entrepreneurial), then I’d absolutely love to hear your story. Hit reply and tell me what you dream of, what you fear, what keeps you up at night, and where you need the most support. I will read and respond to each and every message and offer some FREE coaching via email.

You can check out my updated website HERE to learn more about my new coaching platform.

Last but not least, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support. I am so grateful that you’re part of the Shanti Pax tribe. I wish you the happiest of New Year’s and uncorked magic in 2018.

To you + your magic, XOXO
Allyson

PS You won’t regret doing the mindmap. And feel free to use good ole-fashioned paper and pencil. 🙂
